Abstract

867,817. Window frames. ANDERSON, J. F., and SMITH & PEARSON Ltd. Aug. 4, 1959 [Oct. 7, 1958], No. 26528/59. Class 20(3) A main window frame of rectangular shape which can be fixed directly into a building structure or incorporated into a timber framework comprises four lengths, of extruded aluminiium section 2, Figs. 2 and 3, assembled with the ribs 7 facing inwardly and the lengths are recessed as required at the ends to overlap at each corner to be connected together by selftapping screws 8, Fig. 12, passing through holes in one length 3 to engage in the circular channel 6 of an adjoining length. The main frame may be sub-divided by mullions and/or transoms of extruded aluminium section 9, Fig. 2, with ribs 12 corresponding to ribs 7 and are tenoned into the main frame. The edges of a fixed pane of glass 32 are covered with a strip. of Neoprene 33 and are secured by aluminium channel-shaped glazing beads 34 fitting between the ribs such as 7, 12 on the members 9, 10 and the Neoprene strip 33. An inner frame to carry a pair of vertically sliding sashes constructed as a unit detachable from the main frame has jambs and the head rail formed from extruded aluminium section 16, Fig 2 and the sill of section 20, Fig. 3. the web of which has a curved extension with sloped portion 20 to form a weather strip, the inner -frame members being connected at the corners:by self tapping screws as in the main frame. The sash frames are formed of extruded aluminium H-section 24, Fig. 2, 3, having a rib 241 adapted to run along the edge of the channel 14 or 15, Fig. 2, formed in the inner frame 16 to guide the sash in its sliding movement, and balancing spiral springs 25 are accommodated between the sash frame and inner frame. The top rail of the lower inner sash has its open channel closed by a section 29, Fig. 3, affording a finger grip to manipulate the lower sash and the top rail is also fitted with a Neoprene draught excluding strip 30. The panes 26 in the sashes have their edge portions covered with a Neoprene strip 27 and are secured against the longer limb of the inner channel of the sash frame section by aluminium glazing beads 28 fitted between the strip 27 and the shorter limb of the inner channel of the sash frame section.
