Abstract

1,197,590. Vertically slidable sash windows. JAMES GIBBONS Ltd. 14 Nov., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967], No. 52467/67. Heading E1J. A window has an upper fixed light defined by the header 2, and an upper horizontal intermediate bar 8 secured by butt joints to the jambs 4 and the upper parts of the joints, a lower fixed light defined by the cill 3, lower intermediate bar 10 butt jointed to the lower parts of the jambs 4 and a vertically sliding sash 14 comprising head rail 13, lower rail 14 and stiles (15) balanced by balancing spring or weights 19 housed within the jambs 4 so that the sash can move upwardly or downwardly to overlap the upper and lower fixed lights; preferrably on the inside and outside respectively. The frames are of rectangular corrugated section 4, 6, 5 as shown in Fig. 4, nylon guides 18 being attached over the centre corrugations 6 between the bars 8 and 10. Guides 17 are provided on outer corrugation 4 and a guide flange 16 on the inner corrugation 5 between which the nylon guides 18 are disposed and the sash stiles carry polypropylene woven pile weather strips 30. The frame and sash members are of alluminium alloy of hollow box section as shown and the glazing, single or double, is effected by spring clip strips 22. Wiping strips 31 are provided on the upper and lower bars 8, 10 to seal the junctions between the bars and the rails of the sash in the closed position. Spacers 20 of the same section as stiles 15 are attached to the outer corrugation 5 between members 2 and 8 to bring the upper light width to a standard width.
