Abstract

866,852. Non-metallic pipes ; pipe joints. AMALGAMATED LIMESTONE CORPORATION Ltd. Feb. 16, 1960 [March 4, 1959], No. 7477/59. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). In a wire reinforced hose pipe made of rubber or synthetic plastic, one end 10<SP>1</SP> of the pipe is outwardly flared and the other end is provided with an inwardly converging tapered outer surface 12 having the same or substantially the same angle of taper as that of the end 101, whereby pipe lengths 10, 10<SP>2</SP> can be joined by inserting the surface 12 into the flared end 10<SP>1</SP> and clamping the interengaging pipe ends together. As shown, the pipe 10 is formed with a second oppositely converging tapering surface 14 spaced from the surface 12 by a cylindrical surface 13 and the pipes 10, 10<SP>2</SP> are held together by an I-shaped clamping ring 17. The pipe 10 is additionally reinforced in the vicinity of the surfaces 12, 14 by reducing the spacing of the reinforcing wire convolutions 11 as at 16 or by fixing an annular strip of metal around the surface 14.
