Exhausted or inactivated catalysts are reactivated or the activity of catalysts is increased by treating the catalyst mass, continuously during the reaction process or periodically, with finely-divided abrasive, e.g. corundum or carborundum, in a dispersion medium, e.g. an aerosol or suspension.
