863,942. Lifts. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. March 28, 1958 [April 4, 1957], No. 10029/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 78 (3). An automatic lift system is provided with a circuit which changes the parking floor in accordance with the actual or anticipated demand on the system. With the lower terminal floor selected as the parking floor, the registration of a predetermined number of down calls in a given time interval causes the upper terminal floor to become the parking floor for a predetermined period (e.g. 4 minutes) at the expiration of which the lower terminal floor again becomes the parking floor. If during this period the number of down calls registered in the given time interval again reaches the predetermined number, the period is extended by a further 4 minutes. The counting of the calls is effected by a rotary stepping switch (Fig. 3, not shown) which is moved one step for each down call registered, and is returned to the first contact by a timing relay at the expiration of the given time interval; the change of parking floor being effected if the switch reaches a predetermined contact before it is homed. A similar circuit changes the parking floor from the upper to the lower terminal floor in the event of a predetermined number of up calls being registered in the given period when the upper terminal floor has been selected as the parking floor. A clock-operated switch is also provided to alter the selection of the parking floor in accordance with the predetermined anticipated demand on the system.
