Abstract

863,441. Clamps. CARVER & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. April 17, 1959 [May 13, 1958; April 2, 1959], Nos. 15241/58 and 11144/59. Class 61. A C-clamp comprises a J-shaped frame member 1 carrying a fixed jaw 3, the leg portion of the frame having a series of rack teeth engageable with a fulcrum part or parts on a two armed lever through which the frame leg can slide relatively, one arm 8 of the lever carrying a pivoted jaw 6 and the other arm 9 carrying mechanical means adapted to co-operate with the leg for urging the second jaw member towards the fixed jaw to give a final clamping pressure on a workpiece located between the jaw members. As shown the straight leg part 4 is provided with a series of ratchet teeth 5 engageable by a transverse pin 13 extending across an opening in the two armed lever. The arm 9 of the two armed lever carries a screw 16 engaging a screw threaded hole in a boss 15 on the lever and adapted to co-operate with the leg 4. In a modification the leg is T-shaped in cross-section teeth being provided on the front faces of the lateral flanges thereof and lugs being provided on opposite sides of the opening in the lever for engagement with the teeth. In another modification the jaws are urged together by a manuually operated cam.
