Abstract

A portable flushing toilet unit comprises a collecting chamber 12, a toilet basin 13 having an aperture 14 so that the basin contents on flushing pass into the chamber 12, with which a plunger pump in a fluid chamber 19 communicates, filter means between the chambers, a flap valve in the pump cylinder 21 which allows fluid to flow from the chamber 19 into the cylinder 21 but not vice versa, and a hollow plunger 25 in the cylinder 21 with a hollow stem 24 connected at the end by a flexible conduit 18 to a fluid flushing ring or channel 16 around the basin 13, the plunger 25 being depressed by pedal-actuated means and raised by a spring 28. The filter means forms the wall 20 of the chamber 19, and the pedal actuated means is outside the chamber 12 (formed by a casing 11), both being in an outer casing 40 having a lid 43 and an orifice 41 in the wall for engagement with the pedal 39. The basin 13 has a seat 15 and handles 42 for lifting out of the casing 40.
