Abstract
862,573. Refrigerating. HOLSTEIN & KAPPERT MASCHINENFABRIK PHOENIX G.m.b.H. Feb. 24, 1959, No. 6310/59. Class 29 In apparatus in which liquid to be cooled passes through a coil 6 in a pressure reservoir 1 forming an evaporator supplied through pipe 10 with liquid refrigerant, the reservoir includes an expansion vessel 2 communicating with the reservoir below the normal liquid level therein through ducts so that liquid refrigerant is displaced into vessel 2 when hot cleaning liquid is passed through coil 6. A separator 3 is located above the vessel 2 and liquid refrigerant is returned to the bottom of the reservoir through pipe 4. As shown, coil 6 is located in the narrow annular space between the reservoir wall and vessel 2, and an electric heater 13 energized when the refrigerating system is operating maintains sufficient pressure in vessel 2 to prevent entry of liquid. In a modification, the coils 6 are disposed beneath the vessel 2 and, since the normal liquid refrigerant is then below the bottom of the vessel, the heater 13 is omitted.
