Abstract

862,555. Stator winding machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [May 30, 1956], No. 16740/56. Class 35. In a core winding machine, radially movable fingers are held against the core ends so that they assist in shaping and supporting the end turns and the fingers are on a common support so arranged that they can collectively be withdrawn from the completed end windings. The stator laminµ 1 in a retaining shell 2 is gripped between finger supporting rings 16, 17 and mounted in saddle members of a winding machine. Each ring 16, 17 has radial slots equal in number to the number of core slots and a fingers 31, 32 is mounted in each ring slot and held by a wire or rod 42 disposed in a circumferential groove 43 in rings 16, 17 and by a ring 45 or 46 of L section clamped on rings 16, 17. The machine shown winds a four-pole concentric winding, an unwound slot at the centre of each pole having a bar 67 temporarily placed therein to assist in keeping the end windings clear of the stator bore. Wire is fed into the slots in an unspecified manner and passes over the radially inner part 31 of a finger as shown in Fig. 9. The shape of this part of the finger depends on the number of coils the finger supports and some fingers need their slots to be enlarged into ring 45 or 46 as shown at 61 in Fig. 3. On completion of the winding the stator unit with rings is removed from the machine and the two clamps 52, 54, 56 and 53, 54, 56 which have held rings 16, 17 in place are released and as they move axially away from the core the fingers can tilt and be drawn clear of the end turns. To permit this tilting a slot 41 is provided in the heel of each finger also rings 45, 46 are movable relatively to rings 16, 17 by an amount determined by shoulders 74 (Fig. 3) on the studs 48, 50 forming parts of the abovementioned clamps. The device for causing relative angular movement between the stator and wire layer also is not described. Specification 862,054 is referred to.
