Abstract
861,909. Two-part couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 25, 1959, No. 32655/59. Class 38 (1). A method of establishing an electrical contact to a flexible screen of an electrical cable comprises applying over the screen an internally screw-threaded collar, the apices of the threads being blunted and the cable entry side being countersunk, making close contact with said screen and locking the collar in position by an adhesive. As shown in Fig. 2, a threaded collar 1 is associated with a coaxial connector and is screwed over the screen 2 of a coaxial cable 3 the central conductor 6 of which is soldered to the central pin 4 of the connector, the collar and an insulator 5 being received by the connector body 8 and secured to it by the nut 9. The collar may be an integral part of the connector (Fig. 3, not shown) and may be slotted to give it radial resilience. A modified collar comprises a close coiled helical spring as shown in Fig. 4. The collar may be provided with two screw threads of different diameter such that smaller diameter section engages the screen of the cable and the larger diameter section screws over the insulating covering of the cable (Fig. 6, not shown).
