861,877. Piston packings. WAHLMARK, G. A. Feb. 12, 1957 [May 9, 1956], No. 22911/59. Divided out of 861,876. Drawings to Specification. Class 122 (1). A piston assembly adapted for reciprocation in a cylinder comprises a piston-rod having a head portion including a radially-extending upstanding annular shoulder, a sealing ring of substantially non-deformable material axially shiftable on the head adjacent the shoulder, and means which retains the ring on the head while accommodating limited axial shifting of the ring and is such that any excess pressure in the cylinder on the side of the ring remote from the shoulder is communicated to areas on and/or movably associated with the ring so as to produce a force serving to bias the ring positively against the shoulder. Practically all the subject-matter of this Specification is to be found in Specification 861,876. Specification 861,878 also is referred to.
