Abstract
861,770. Pipe couplings, flexible tubes. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. July 28, 1959 [Oct. 31, 1958], No. 35056/58. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). In an end-fitting of metal or thermo-plastic for a conduit 1 of polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, a polyamide or natural or synthetic rubber, the conduit being formed with internal and external convolutions with a filler cord 2 wound in between the latter and enclosed in a metallic braided screen 3, a nipple 9 having a frusto-conical face 12 is screwed into the end of the conduit 1 whilst a smooth bored sleeve 4 belled at one end is surrounded by a ferrule 7 having an internal shoulder 8 which, when the ferrule is screwed on to the nipple, engages one end of the sleeve 4 and forces the latter endwise of the conduit so as to grip the conduit and the screen 3 between the face 12 of the nipple and the belled end 5 of the sleeve. As shown, the face 12 of the nipple is provided with an annular sealing groove 13 for reception of the material comprising the conduit ; alternatively, an " O " type sealing ring of neoprene or silicone rubber is mounted in the groove. The nipple has fixedly secured thereto a screw threaded ring 14 for engagement by the ferrule and carries a captive coupling nut 16. The ferrule has a belled end 22 which may be filled with a sealing compound 23. Specification 847,721 is referred to.
