Abstract

1,065,480. Hose couplings; flexible hoses. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Oct. 28, 1965 [Feb. 26, 1965], No. 42170/66. Divided out of 1,059,714. Headings F2G and F2P. The material of a hose 2 of polytetrafluoroethylene, nylon, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or polythene is forced into the grooves 4 of a nipple 1 by forcing axially into the hose a liner 5, and the braided or plaited wire hose reinforcement 11 is gripped between the nipple and a ferrule 12. The latter is forced axially over the nipple and secured thereto by swaging the end of the ferrule into a groove 18, and is also peened over the end of the liner as indicated at 10. To prevent rotation of and to hold the ferrule in position the nipple is formed with straight knurling at 19. In modifications, (a) the nipple has an annular groove into which the braid 11 is forced by crimping the ferrule inwardly, the liner and nipple being secured together by an epoxy resin inserted in a groove in the nipple, and (b) the nipple and liner are in screwed engagement, the screw-threads being smeared with an epoxy resin.
