Abstract
861,569. Billet piercing; extruding. HYDRAULIK G.m.b.H. April 24, 1958, No. 13108/58. Class 83 (4). An hydraulic extrusion press for metal tubes has a billet piercing mandrel 3 which is coupled by remote control to the main piston 7 for performing the piercing operation. A billet inserted into the container 11 is first compressed by both the press ram 1 and mandrel 3 which are advanced together by piston 7 and pistons 14 acting on a crosshead 6, Fig. 3 (not shown). The ram 1 is then retracted by rods 35 whilst the mandrel 3 is maintained against the billet by fluid pressure admitted to cylinder 17. Coupling bolts 18, 19 carried by the main piston 7 are then moved inwardly to engage behind a collar 23 on the mandrel carrier 15, by pistons 21 actuated hydraulically through remote control and the main piston 7 is again moved forwardly to force the mandrel through the billet. The coupling bolts are then released and the billet is extruded by the ram 1 through the die 12 to form a tube whilst the mandrel is maintained stationary by a device 26, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). Withdrawal cylinders 30 are provided. for the mandrel.
