Abstract

860,600. Valves. SINGER, E. Jan. 15, 1958 [June 6, 1957], No. 17798/57. Class 135. In a pressure-regulating valve comprising a spring-loaded diaphragm 17 subject to outlet pressure via a passage 72 and a closure member 45 actuated by the diaphragm 17 and controlling flow through a sleeve 36 between an inlet port 24 and an outlet port 26, the volume of fluid passing through the valve is regulated by an adjustable plug 79 which is movable towards and away from the sleeve outlet 40 to vary the size of the annular port 85 defined by the lower end of the plug 79 and the sleeve outlet 40. The plug 79 is adjusted axially by rotating the valve stem 62, the upper hexagonal end of which extends through a corresponding shaped opening 80 in the plug. Access to the valve spindle, valve plate 45, spring 54 and filter 58 is gained by unscrewing a cap 49. The plug 79 may be in the form of an inverted cup as shown, or may consist of a downwardly extending conical surface or it may have a flat inner end. In another embodiment the plug can be adjusted without having to remove the lower cap.
