860,447. Gas burners. FLYNN, J. H. May 21, 1958, No. 16284/58. Class 75 (1). A gas burner comprises an elongated casing 32 having a longitudinal discharge port 36 and divided by partitions 56 into three sections 58, a gas conduit 64 extending through the casing and having an outlet port 76a, 76b, 76c, in each section 58 of the casing and a valve 66 operated by a control rod 102 to open any one or more of the outlet ports 76a, 76b, 76c. The valve 66 is adapted to supply gas to any one section or to any two sections or to all three sections. The valve comprises three sleeves 96a, 96b, 96c, each connected by spiders to the control rod 102 and each having a series of circumferential ports 114 some of which are contiguous and others spaced; thus the ports of the sleeve 96a consist of three contiguous ports 114a and one port 114a spaced therefrom by a wall portion 116. The control rod 102 is journalled in the end covers of the gas conduit 64 and extends through one end cover into a housing 104 having a pivoted cover 108. In a modified construction, Fig. 16 (not shown) the valve 66 is in the form of a continuous tube rotatable in the gas conduit 64 and having ports co-operating with the ports 76a, 76b, 76c of the gas conduit ; and in a further modified construction, Fig. 17 (not shown) the valve 66 is a slide valve having valve plates provided with a series of ports and co-operating with the ports 76a, 76b, 76c of the gas conduit. The gas conduit 64 has additional outlets which are not controlled by the valve 66 and provide small flames at each section of the burner when the valve therefor is closed. Alternatively a pilot burner is disposed between the burner sections and is supplied with gas through ports in the partitions 56 and registering apertures in the gas conduit 64. The discharge port 36 is flanked by low pressure discharge ports 38 supplied with gas from the discharge port 36 through ducts 39. The discharge port 36 and the low pressure discharge ports 38 contain sets of major and minor ribbons arranged to provide in each discharge port passages of high, medium and low velocity gas.
