Abstract
860,294. Reservoir pens. PAIROTTO MANNEN HITSU KABUSHIKI KAISHA. July 8, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 21856/58. Class 146(3). The nib-section of a fountain pen is in the form of an outer shell which holds in assembled relationship a nib, a feed bar and a.member in which surplus ink is collected. The ink collector 4 is formed with capillary chambers 4d on its outer surface which are connected by a longitudinal slit 4c on the underside of the member. The slit 4c communicates at its forward end with a longitudinal recess 4a on the upper side of the collector 4 and also with a hole 5a in the tip of the outer shell 5 in which the collector is mounted. The feed, bar 1 is mounted in the recess 4a of the collector 4 and is formed on its upper face with a recess 1b which lies beneath an air hole 2a in the nib 2. The lower face of the feed bar is formed with a longitudinal groove 1a and a longitudinal recess 1d, the groove 1a extending upwards at its forward end to a position adjacent to the underside of the nib and the recess 1d communicating with the hole 5a in the shell. A sleeve 3 surrounds the rear ends of the feed bar and ink collector and a collapsible ink sac 6 is secured thereto. The edges of the nib rest on shoulders 4b at either side of the recess 4a in the ink collector. During filling ink is sucked into the sac 6 through the hole 5a. During writing air flows through the recess 1d in the feed bar to replace ink as it is fed from the sac 6 along the groove la to the nib. Any excess of ink fed along the groove 1a is conveyed to the capillary chambers 4d by the slit 4c, air from the chambers being exhausted through spaces 4e, the recess 1b in the feedbar and the hole 2a in the nib.
