Class 20(1) [Also in Groups XXV, XXXII and XXXIII] The edge of, for example, the walls 2 of a tent are secured and sealed by means of an inflatable member 8 which is integral with the edge and is passed through and inflated to clamp the edge against a slot in an anchoring means, the latter comprising a beam 3 with an upwardly-extending web 4, terminating in a bulbous head 5, and brackets 7 supporting a rail 6, the rail 6 being spaced horizontally from and disposed parallel to the head 5 to form the slot. The extent to which the walls 2 are passed through the slot is determined by a rib or ribs 9 secured to the walls and formed of elastic strips or cord or by an inflated tube, and the member 8 when inflated draws the rib or ribs 9 into close contact with the head 5 and the rail 6 to augment the sealing. In a modification, the rib or ribs 9 are secured to the inflatable member 8 which is passed only partially through the slot before being inflated. In other modifications the inflatable member 8 is separate from the edge of the walls 2 and is housed in a channel member forming part of a modified anchoring means, and when the member 8 is inflated it clamps the edge of the walls 2 against a beam which forms another part of the modified anchoring means. A variety of crosssections are described for the beam. In the Figure the walls 2 have incorporated therein pneumatic tubular members 1 retaining the tent in its pitched condition. Alternatively, the invention may be used for securing and sealing the edge of a protective sheet for deck cargo on ships. Additional securing members such as straps or ropes may be passed over the sheet, these members having inflatable members for securing them as above described.
