859,878. Hydraulic pit prips. BOCHUMER GESELLSCHAFT FUR GRUBENAUSBAU UND TECHNIK. March 19, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 8929/57. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] In an hydraulic pit prop comprising a reservoir piston 2 in a cylinder 1 and having a pump 5 adapted to extend the prop by drawing fluid by a conduit 24 from the reservoir 2a and deliver it by conduits 22, 21 to a pressure chamber la, the pump piston is a slide valve having a recess 10a adapted to connect passages 21, 29 and thus the chambers 1a, 2a to release the prop. The pump is reciprocated to extend the prop by a removable handle 18 pivoting on a pin 17. To release the prop the end 20 of the handle is engaged with a cross pin 14 on the pump piston rod and the piston is rotated and moved longitudinally thereby, until the recess 10a connects the passages 21, 29. To allow the prop to be inverted the conduit 24 has openings 25, 26 one at each end with gravity operated sleeves 27 which close the opening at the top. Two breathers 30 comprising slotted resilient material, are also provided at each end of the reservoir 2a, the lower breather being sealed by a cap 35. A relief valve 36 is provided in the piston head 3.
