Abstract

857,765. Latches. KLEIN & CO. G.m.b.H., J. J. Dec. 12, 1957 [Aug. 16, 1957], No. 38692/57. Class 44. A fastener for a handbag &c. comprises a latch bar 4 pivotally mounted on a member 2 of the handbag frame and having a slot 4b for engagement with a retaining nib 6 on the other frame member 1. The latch bar 4 has slidably mounted in a sleeve 7 attached thereto the stem 9 of an ornamental knob or finger piece 8, said stem being secured in the sleeve by bending lugs 10 on the sleeve into recesses therein. The fastener is released by upward movement of the knob 8 against the action of a spring wire 5 which passes through a rib 4a on the latch bar 4. Before mounting the stem 9 in the sleeve 7 the frame members 1 and 2 are fixed to the bag material, and the sleeve and stem are preferably of rectangular crose-section. The lugs 10 may be replaced by a resilient tongue attached to the underside of the sleeve 7 and having a free end passing through the sleeve for engaging a notch in the stem 9.
