Abstract

857,540. Controlling jet-propelled aircraft. PYE Ltd. May 10, 1957 [May 10, 1956], No. 14642/56. Class 4. To control the flight of a jet-propelled missile or aircraft 3, a jet-deflecting tube 1 is pivotally mounted behind the venturi nozzle 2 to turn about an axis near its front. The tube carries spindles 4 turning in bearings 5 so that as the tube is deflected fins 6, which are in the airstream of the missile and carried by the spindles, are turned in such a way that the forces on the fins due to the airstream tend to turn the tube in the direction of deflection. The tube 1 may be mounted for universal movement, in which case bwo fins 7 are arranged at right angles to fins 6, the four fins being coupled to the tube by gimbals.
