Abstract

820,009. Controlling aircraft. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. March 22, 1957 [April 3, 1956], No. 10219/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 4. In an aircraft capable of supersonic speeds, aerodynamic surfaces are provided which are movable about an axis, parallel to the craft longitudinal axis, into either horizontal or vertical positions. The surfaces may be at the wing tips or at the tail assembly and control is effected, automatically, through a computor, in accordance with Mach number, air pressure and temperature. At speeds below Mach 0À8 the surfaces provide large pitch and small yaw contributions to the aircraft stability and above Mach 0À8 the contributions are reversed.
