Abstract

855,125. Statistical apparatus. PITNEYBOWES Inc. Aug. 6, 1957 [Aug. 6, 1956], No. 24763/57. Class 106 (1). [Also in Group XVI] In apparatus for sorting cheques, record cards &c. into groups according to data indicated thereon, the cheques &c. C are separated sequentially from a stack and fed to a reading station 24 where the data on each cheque is read to develop a signal which is stored temporarily and then transferred to one of a number of stacker control devices 26. A further signal is effected when the leading end of each cheque passes a registration zone 100, which signal co-operates with electronically controlled apparatus to determined which stacking device 26 is to receive the cheque. The mixed cheques C are separated from a stack by a friction roller and opposed feed belts 41, 56 (see Group XVI, and forwarded to a feed disc 74 co-operating with spring-urged rollers 87. The sheets are retarded and timed by arms 76 on a shaft 57 which rotates slower than the disc 74, and are then fed to the station 24 by a belt 92 and roller 93. In the selected stacker 26, the relayed signal causes a cam to open a gate 101 in the path of the moving cheque.
