Abstract

The invention comprises: (a) compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0854553/IV(b)/1> in which Y is CH2CH2 or CH=CH and R1 is hydrogen or trifluoromethyl; (b) the preparation of the compounds in which Y is CH2CH2 by heating appropriate 2,21-diamino-trifluoromethyldibenzyl diphosphates; and (c) the preparation of the compounds in which Y is CH=CH by dehydrogenation of the compounds in which Y is CH2 CH2. 2,21-Diamino-4,41-bistrifluoromethyldibenzyl and 2,21-diamino-4-trifluoromethyldibenzyl are prepared by reducing the corresponding dinitrodibenzyls. 2,21-Dinitro-4,41-bistrifluoromethyldibenzyl is prepared by oxidising 2-nitro-4-trifluoromethyl-toluene with amyl nitrite. 2,21-Dinitro-4-trifluoromethyldibenzyl is prepared by similarly oxidizing a mixture of 2-nitro-4-trifluoromethyltoluene and 2-nitrotoluene.
