Abstract

853,974. Fluid-actuated valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 9, 1957], No. 31574/57. Class 135. A main control valve actuated by a pilot valve to control the flow of fluid between an inlet port 15 and a service port 31 or between the service port and an exhaust port 19, comprises a main valve 13 urged against the inlet port by pressure fluid admitted to a chamber 24 through an endwise passage 22 to act on a piston 20 larger in diameter than the inlet port opening and a light spring 25 and a pilot valve 26 normally urged upwardly by a spring 27 to close an outlet duct 29 from the chamber. The pilot valve 26 constitutes the armature of a solenoid and on the energization of a solenoid coil 30, the pilot valve moves downwardly towards the main valve to exhaust the chamber and allow the main valve to open the inlet port 15 and move towards a seat 17 to close the exhaust port 19. Before engaging the seat 17, the piston 20 is engaged by the lower needle 32 of the pilot valve 26 to close the passage 22 and so prevent loss of fluid.
