Abstract
853,868. Mine roof supports. BOCHUMER GESELLSCHAFT FUR GRUBENAUSBAU UND TECHNIK. Jan. 23, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1956], No. 2482/57. Class 20(2) Apparatus for removing the side segments 3 of mine arches comprises a lifting device consisting of a piston 15 and cylinder 5 provided with a grappling device 4 and pivotally mounted on a steel base 16, a guide bar 24 being pivoted between the cylinder 5 and the base 16. The base 16 has two parallel side pieces 17 stiffened by transverse plates 18 between which is a roller bearing housing 19 which pivotally receives the piston 14. The bar 24 is adjustable in length by means of a cock 25. In use, the grapple 4 is secured to the arch segment 3 and the lifting device is extended by pumping oil from a remote trolley (not shown) through a connector 29 and a bore 28 into the cylinder 5. The base 16 is then withdrawn by a windlass mounted on the trolley and the lifting device is lowered by pumping oil through a connector 30 to act on the underside of the head of the piston 15. A gasket 26 and packing 27 seal the piston 15 and cylinder 5.
