Abstract

852,385. Magnetic tests. TYER & CO. Ltd. July 2, 1958, No. 21160/58. Class 37 The strength of a magnet is determined by a Z-shaped armature 10 carrying a pointer 12 and mounted between pole-pieces 7, 8 carried respectively on a base plate 1 and a spaced screening plate 3. The base plate is positioned on a polepiece of a magnet under test when movement of a pointer against the action of a spring 17 is indicated against a scale which may be divided into coloured warning sections. Screws 22, 28 allow adjustment of the tension and angle of spring 17. A roller, polarized as shown, is rotated to display an indication in a window on the top of the instrument which indicates the polarity of the magnet pole and hence, in a particular oilway signalling system, whether the magnet is permanent or electromagnetic.
