Abstract
Molasses spent wash is treated, after sterilisation where appropriate, with schizomycetes, actinomycetes, hyphomycetes or algae, and vitamin B12 and/or antibiotics are recovered from the products so obtained by centrifuging and solvent extraction. As molasses spent wash there may be employed the spent wash from citric acid production, from methane fermentation and from glutamic acid production. Suitable micro-organisms are S. olivaceous, S. aureofaciens, B. megatherium, S. griseus, Penicillium claviforme, Lactobacillus caseii and Propionibacterium freudenreichii. Specification 541,594 is referred to.ALSO:To form animal feeds, molasses spent wash is treated, after sterilization where appropriate, with schizomycetes, actinomycetes, hyphomycetes or algae. As molasses spent wash there may be used distiller's spent wash, the spent wash from citric acid production, that from methane fermentation and from glutamic acid production. Additionally there may be added to the fermentation medium autolyzates, plasmolyzates, thermolyzates, cytolyzates or hydroy zates of micro-organisms propagated or employed in the production of the spent wash, together with nutrient salts and/or trace elements. Suitable micro-organisms are Streptomyces olivaceous, S aurefaciens, Bacillus megatherium, S. griseus, Penicillium claviforme, Lactobacillus caseii and Propionibacterium freudenreichii. Specification 541,594 is referred to.
