Abstract

A herbicidal composition comprises one or more herbicidal substances dispersed in an aqueous thixotropic colloidal gel and may also include a non-ionic surface-active agent. Specified herbicidal substances are sodium tetraborate decahydrate and tentahydrate, anhydrous borax, sodium metaborate, sodium pentaborate, colemanite, Ulexite, Gerstley borate, chlorates of sodium, potassium, lithium and calcium, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and its sodium salt, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-chloro-4,6-bis(ethylamino) - s - triazine, 3 - (p - chlorophenyl) - 1,1 - dimethyl urea, 3-phenyl-1,1-dimethyl urea, 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) - 1,1 - dimethyl urea, 3 - (3,4 - dichlorophenyl) - 1 - methyl - 1 - n - butyl urea, 2 - chloro - 4,6 - bis (diethylamino) - s - triazine, 2,3, 6-trichlorobenzoic acid, isopropyl-N-(3-chlorophenyl) carbamate, sodium 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) ethyl sulphate, 2,2-dichloroproprionic acid, sodium 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyethyl sulphate, trichloroacetic acid, 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole, sodium pentachlorophenate. Specified colloids are carboxymethylcellulose, hydrous magnesium silicate, casein, gum arabic, guar gum, alginates, methyl cellulose, clays, preferably, high-swelling clays such as bentonite clays.
