850,058. Making composite ribbed tubes; jointing by forging; tube expanding. GREEN & SONS Ltd., E. Oct. 6, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1957], No. 31180/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A heat-exchange tube comprises an inner tube 1 provided with one or more tightly fitted external ribbed sleeves 2 each having a number of internal grooves 4, the tube being expanded into tight engagement with each sleeve and thereby causing some of the tube material to flow into the grooves. The latter may extend circumferentially or longitudinally, Fig. 1 (not shown). The tube 1 may be of steel and the externally-ribbed sleeves 2 of cast iron. A hardened steel plug is pulled through the tube to expand it.
