Abstract
849,819. Metal-working presses; blanks transferring. DANLY MACHINE SPECIAL. TIES Inc. Sept. 14, 1956 [March 22, 1956], No. 28106/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXX] In a transfer feed assembly, e.g. for a multistation press having two feed-bars with a number of pairs of spaced work-carriers, the two bars are slidable on a common guide extending transversely of the assembly and each bar is slidable on one of two supports extending lengthwise of the assembly, the transverse guide being linked to mechanism for reciprocating it along the lengthwise supports to reciprocate the bars longitudinally and the lengthwise supports being linked to mechanism for reciprocating them and the bars towards and away from one another relatively to the transverse guide. A shaft 40, driven from the main shaft of the press drives a barrel cam 78, through gears 54, 56, and 60, Fig. 4, which actuates a follower 94 carried on a pivoted lever 92 so that a link 98 and a drive-bar 100, Fig. 3, are reciprocated. The drive-bar is slidably mounted in drive members 102, 104 which carry light-metal, e.g. magnesium, feed-bars 22, 24, Fig. 2. The drive members 102, 104 and similar members 230, 232 (Fig. 5, not shown) at the other end of the feedbars, are mounted on pairs of slide-rods 142, 144 and 226, 228, respectively (Fig. 5, not shown), so that the feed-bars may move longitudinally. The longitudinal sliding assembly is mounted for transverse sliding on transverse drive slides 138, 140 and 218, 220 (Fig.'5, not shown), which slide on transverse supporting- rods 134, 136 and 222, 224, respectively. Links 154, 156 and 210, 212 are pivoted to the driveslides 138, 140 and 218, 220, respectively, and to oscillating cranks 148 and 204, respectively, which transversely reciprocate the bars 22, 24 so that they move alternately together and apart. The cranks 148 and 204 are driven by barrel cams 110, 178. Blanks are fed singly from a stack 256 by a shuttle 240, which is attached to the feed-bars for reciprocation with them and has a portion 258 extending into a slot 260 in a blank transfer table 262, Fig. 12. On the feed stroke of the shuttle the bottom blank is engaged by a semi-circular portion and pushed forward into a position for gripping by the first pair of grippers 32, 36. During this motion pivoted fingers 308, 310, Fig. 7, grip and lift the stack leaving only the lowest blank to be fed to the grippers. The fingers are actuated by a cam-driven lever 288 through links 296, 300 and 302. A limit switch 274 (Fig. 11, not shown) may be connected into the press drive to stop the press should two blanks accidentally be fed. The pawls 270, Fig. 11 (not shown), prevent movement of the blank on the returnstroke of the shuttle. After a blank has been fed to the correct position on the table 262 the feed-bars move together so that the grippers grip and carry it forward on the next feed-stroke to the first work station. The grippers then release the blank by movement apart of the feed-bars which then return. This operation is repeated so that blanks are moved progressively through a number of stations on a common feedstroke.
