In a motor vehicle hydraulic braking system, an hydraulic master cylinder is operated to apply at least one of the brakes associated with the front and the rear wheels of the vehicle and a servo mechanism is associated with the brake or brakes adapted to be applied by the hydraulic master cylinder and thereby to apply the remaining brakes in the system. In the motor vehicle braking system illustrated in Fig. 2 provided with disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels, a pedal operated master cylinder 3 applies one of the rear wheel drum brakes 1; the torque plate 4 of the latter being mounted for limited angular movement upon the non-rotatable axle housing 5 to actuate the servo mechanism 10 mounted on flange 8 integral with axle housing 5 to apply the remaining brakes of the system. Additional servo assistance of the braking system may be achieved by a connection 17 between conduit 15 and space 18 at the rear of piston 19 in pedal operated master cylinder 3.
