Abstract
848,544. Welding by fusion. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Nov. 26, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36560/56. Class 83 (4). In a manual electric arc welding torch having a welding head mounted on and at an angle to a handle, a guide for a consumable electrode, an electric supply cable and a shielding gas supply pipe are connected to the torch at the end of the handle remote from the welding head. The body 3 of the welding head 1 holds a ceramic nozzle 6 and a collet 10 securing the contact tube 11. An extension 4 fixed to the body 3 extends into a two part casing 2 constituting the handle. Cooling water pipes 17, 18, a gas pipe 13, a supply cable 16, the leads 25 connecting a switch 22 on the handle to the control ot a remote electrode feed motor and a flexible electrode guide 21 pass through a flexible cable 24 attached to the end of the handle. The electrode guide 21 enters the welding head through an apertured cap 7 threaded on to the body 3. If the contact tube 11 is removed a non-consumable electrode may be secured in the collet 10 in which case a closed cap is substituted for the apertured cap 7.
