846,293. Measuring forces. NEDERLANDSE ORGANISATIE VOOR TOLGEPASTNATUURWETENSCHAPPILIJK ONDERZAEK TEN BEHOEVE VAN NYVERHEID HANDEL EN VERKER. April 29, 1957 [May 1, 1956], No. 13635/57. Class 106 (2). [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXVIII] In a force-measuring device, the load is applied via a steel hemisphere 3, Fig. 1, and a pressure plate 4 to a resilient flat ring 6 which is supported on three steel balls 8, Fig. 2, disposed equidistantly from one another and at a common distance from the centre of the ring, a further three steel balls 7 being positioned between the pressure plate 4 and the ring 6 at points circumferentially midway between pairs of the balls 8. The balls 7, 8 are located in shallow depressions in the ring 6, and the penetration of moisture is opposed by a membrane 5 clamped between the casing 1 of the device and a cover-plate 2, and moisture absorbing means is provided in a box 9 on the underside of plate 4. The deformation of the ring 6, and hence the magnitude of the load, is measured electrically (see Group XXXVIII).
