Abstract

845,597. Forwarding textile yarns, tows &c. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Sept. 9, 1957, No. 28448/57. Classes 120(2) and 120(3). Apparatus for forwarding running lengths of yarn or tow or like filamentary material comprises two narrow endless belts arranged to travel over paths which converge, are lightly contiguous over a finite length, and then diverge, with means for driving the belts at substantially the same speed, the material remaining in contact with one only of the belts over the diverging section. The arrangement may be horizontal, inclined or vertical: in a vertical arrangement, Fig. 1, the belts pass over rollers 3, 4 and 5, 6 respectively, the rollers 3, 5 being of equal and relatively large diameters, and one, 3, being driven, the other belt being driven by contact or by the rollers 3, 5 being geared together. The rollers 3, 5 are geared apart, and idlers 7, 9, 8, 10 are placed to provide a nip between points 11 and 12 after which the second belt is caused to move away from the first over a roller 6. One or more liquid applicators, a spiral guide 15, and a traverse-guide 16 may be provided, the latter being traversed in two directions to deposit the material in a stationary can 17.
