Abstract

845,418. Fabrics composed of agglutinated fibres; laminates. FREUDENBERG, KOMM.- GES., AUF AKTIEN, C. Sept. 20, 1956 [Aug. 7, 1956], No. 28828/56. Addition to 828,414. Class 140. The method of making material consisting of fibres and natural or synthetic rubber, as in the parent Specification, is modified by subjecting the superimposed impregnated fibrous sheets to heat and pressure while the latex is only partially vulcanized. A synthetic resin, e.g. an amino plastic, phenolic resins or a polyamide, may be introduced into the fibrous sheets between the partial vulcanization and final compression steps. In an example, twelve layers of carded webs of polyamide fibres are laid crosswise and impregnated with an emulsion of a chlorobutadiene polymerizate containing vulcanizing ingredients and a wetting agent; after squeezing, drying and partial vulcanization, the product is re-impregnated with an aqueous solution of a melamine-formaldehyde pre-condensate containing zinc chloride and dicyandiamide, and dried. Sheets are then cut from the material, superimposed, and compressed at 135‹ C. Roller coverings may be produced by punching annular washers from the product, assembling them on a core, and subjecting them to axial pressure. Specification 828,214 is referred to.
