844,968. Wireless receiving apparatus. GILL, F. W., and HOOKER, A. C. Nov. 19, 1958 [Nov. 19, 1957], No. 35937/57. Class 40(5). An installation for a portable receiver carried in a vehicle, comprises a support for the receiver, and means for cutting off the receiver's internal aerial and connecting an external aerial mounted on the vehicle. In the embodiment described, the portable apparatus is contained in a case 2, in the base of which is mounted a socket 5 housing contacts 6, and a holder 7 is provided in the vehicle, into which the case can slide. When the apparatus is inserted, the internal aerial 4 may be put out of use by making the holder 7 a complete screen. At the same time a jack plug 8 mounted in the base of the holder engages with the contacts 6 in the socket 5 to connect the external aerial 9 to the apparatus. Further contacts on the jackplug may be used to connect the vehicle's power supplies to the apparatus in place of its internal batteries. In an alternative arrangement the batteries may be recharged from the vehicle's power supplies when the equipment is not in use. In a further modification the internal aerial may be disconnected by suitable switching means, and separate tuning coils brought into circuit when the external aerial is used.
