844,880. Guillotine cutting machines. STRAMIT BOARDS PROPRIETARY Ltd. Aug. 23, 1957 [Aug. 24, 1956], No. 26686/57. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] Wall board 13 issuing from a fabricating machine is cut into lengths by means of a reciprocating knife 37 mounted on a carriage 6 which moves with the board, the knife being applied to the board from below and the board being clamped to the carriage in such a manner that it is bent downwards and allows the cut to open as cutting proceeds. An adjustable stop 63 on a rod 61 extending forwards from the carriage is engaged by the advancing end of the board to determine the length to be cut and an upper clamp 28 divided along the line of cut is moved down to press the board against spaced boards 34 on the carriage by means of manually-operated toggle levers 31 acting aganst springs 29. To ensure downward bending of the board, the boards 34 may be inclined inwardly towards each other and they are below the level of a roller 23 on the carriage and rollers 12 of a main conveyer 11. The knife 37 is carried between bars 38 secured to carriages 39 slidable on a guide rod 41 and one carriage is linked by a connecting rod 54 to a crank disc 57 driven through a reduction gear-box 58 by a motor 60 on a sub-frame 59 of the carriage. The knife is raised into contact with the wall board 13 by a handle 53 connected by a belt 50 to toggle levers 46 pivoted on the guide bar 41 and on lugs 45 depending from the carriage. For returning the carriage to its starting position, one of the roller axles 14 of the carriage has a handle 20 and carries sprockets 15 engaging chains 16, the chains being adjustable by screws 18 and threaded blocks 17 to ensure that the knife is normal to the axis of the wall board; racks and pinions may be used alternatively to the chains and sprockets.
