844,552. Root-crop harvesters. JOHNSON, T. S. March 18, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 21094/58. Class 6(3). An arrangement for combining a tractor and a rootcrop harvester comprises removing the front-wheel assembly 2 of the tractor and mounting it on the frame 6 of the harvester which is otherwise wheel-less, securing the harvester frame to a bracket 11 attached to the rear of the tractor and connecting the wheel-assembly to the steering-gear of the tractor. If necessary the wheels 2 may be mounted on a longer axle before attachment to the harvester frame but the resultant assembly is connected by a rod 21 to the steering drop-arm 22 on the tractor. The harvester is conventional and includes coulter 9, elevator 8, and shares 7, the latter being connectible to the hydraulic lift mechanism 23 on the tractor for heightadjustment. A stay 15 may connect the tractor with the harvester superstructure 16. In place of the front wheels top-thrashing flails 27, 28, may be mounted to be driven by a belt 29 from the tractor engine.
