Abstract

844,056. Rear view mirrors for vehicles. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT Ltd. May 20, 1959 [June 13, 1958], No. 19064/58. Class 103(2). A rear view driving mirror for fitting into the handlebar of a. motorcycle comprises an L-shaped arm 10, Fig. 2, to one end of which a mirror is adjustably mounted in known manner, whilst at its other end there is attached a hardened tapered screwed hollow bolt 12, the thread of which can be screwed into the untapped open end of a handlebar. The bolt has diametrically opposed slots 24 and a hexagonal head 14 having a collar 15 provided with two lugs 17, entering respectively, a recess 16 and slots in the end of the arm 10. A jointed bolt 18 passes through the bolt 12 and has a head 19 entering a recess 20 in the arm end, lugs (not shown) on the head entering slots in the hollow of the recess 20. A spring 21 is disposed around the rod between a washer 22 and the head 14, the washer being retained by a pin 23. Disposed between the head 14 and the arm end is a leather washer 25. The slots 24 allow some compression of the hollow portion 13 of the bolt 12 so that it may be used with handlebars of different internal diameters. The arm can yield relative to the bolt against the action of the spring 21.
