Abstract

843,287. Turbine rotor blading. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. June 27, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 37654/57. Class 110 (3). A turbine blade assembly comprises batches of rotor blades interconnected by binding wire in which adjacent batches are coupled by a member or associated members having pivotal engagement about radial axes with the adjacent batches whilst being able to transmit circumferential motion from batch to batch. In Fig. 2, a coupling member for two batches of blades C and D interconnected by binding wires 11, 12 respectively consists of a short piece of wire 6 loosely held in two aligned holes 7 and 8 in the last blade 9 of batch C and in the first blade 10 of batch D. The wire 6 is of such a length as to permit slight circumferential movement. In operation, the junction wire 6 is pressed by centrifugal force against the sides of the holes 7 and 8 permitting forces to be circumferentially transmitted by friction, between adjacent batches. The junction wire 6 can also pivot about radial axes through holes 7 and 8 and consequently will not transmit motion between batches in an axial direction. In a modification the coupling member comprises a short tube, the open ends of which engage loosely over circumferential projections on the end blades of adjacent batches. Fig. 4 shows a coupling member 18 which at one end has a recess 20, shaped to engage loosely over a projection 22 on a blade of one batch, and has at the opposite end a projection 19 of reduced diameter loosely engaged in a hole 21 in a blade of an adjacent batch. Another modification comprises a coupling member which has projections of reduced diameter at opposite ends thereof loosely engaged in holes in blades of adjacent batches or in the open ends of tubular shaped binding wires.
