Abstract

843,026. Air heaters. MAIN Ltd., R. & A., and ADAM, A. J. Oct. 6, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1957], No. 31202/57. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger in which convected air is heated by combustion gases and particularly for use with a gas fire comprises a hollow metal body portion through which the hot gases flow, and over which flows the air to be heated, the said body being cast around a plurality of sheet metal fins projecting from the surface of the body The body and fins are preferably of aluminium or aluminium alloy. The fins may extend through the wall of the hollow body into the gas and air streams as shown in Fig. 5 or separate fins may extend on opposite sides of the said wall as shown in Fig. 8. As applied to a gas fire, e.g. of the kind described in Specification 783,127, the hollow member has flanges 16, 17 at its lower end for attachment to the casing portion (not shown) supporting the firebrick back of the gas fire and is shaped at its upper end to provide a passage 19 for connecting to a flue (not shown). The body member may, as shown, comprise two finned members 10, 11 of channel section bolted and sealed together or it may comprise one finned member of channel section, the open side of which is closed by a sheet metal wall.
