Abstract

842,831. Magnetic recording &c. heads. WOLFGANG ASSMANN G.m.b.H. Dec. 3, 1958 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 39034/58. Class 40 (2). A mounting for a magnetic head of the recordguided type is pivoted about a horizontal axis 4 in a bifurcate rigid member 5 forming part of a tone-arm assembly 6. The head bears directly on the record at the pole-pieces 10 and at the pad 8, and resiliently by the member 15, which engages an adjacent groove to that being transduced and whose azimuthal rigidity safeguards the polepieces 10 from tracking stresses. The arrangement is stated to prevent groove-jumping and to maintain continuous contact with imperfect and worn records.
