In an arrangement for joining two pile sections, one coupling member comprises a hollow hexagonally-shaped member 1 whose end wall 4 is secured to reinforcing rods 3 at the corresponding end of a pile section and carries a gripping sleeve 5 which is of the same cross-sectionalshape and has an inwardly directed flange 6. The complementary coupling member 8, secured to reinforcing rods 11 at the adjacent end of a neighbouring pile section, is of the same section as the member 1 and has a correspondingly shaped, but smaller, gripping head 9 projecting from an end wall 12. Each corner 14 of the gripping head 9 coincides with the centre line between the two corners 7 of the corresponding side of the member 8, the gripping head being of a size to enter the gripping sleeve 5 when the corners 2 of the latter are aligned with the corners 14 of the gripping head which are undercut to provide engaging surfaces 10 each of which forms an angle to the plane of the end wall. When two pile sections are to be joined, the gripping sleeve 5 of the member 1 is lowered over the gripping head 9 of the member 8 and the upper pile section is turned through an angle of about 30 degrees so that the corners 2 and 7 of the coupling members 1,8 coincide the surfaces 10, engaging the flange 6 of the gripping sleeve 5. The coupling members are secured in this position e.g. by one or more screws, not shown. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 the coupling members 1,8 are of cylindrical-shape, the gripping head 9 having radial undercut tongues 16 with oblique engaging surfaces and the gripping sleeve 19 having inwardly extending radial tongues 20 separated by interspaces 21. Further embodiments include providing both coupling members with either fixed gripping heads or fixed gripping sleeves, the coupling of the two adjacent gripping heads or gripping sleeves being effected respectively by a corresponding rotatable gripping sleeve enclosing the two gripping heads and having two coacting flanges or by means of a double-acting gripping head having a spigot-like engagement with the corresponding pair of gripping sleeves and being rotatable to secure the coupling members together. The gripping head or sleeve may have an axially projecting conical guide pin for entering a corresponding hole in the other coupling member to guide the coupling members when they are moved together.
