Abstract
840,974. Steering vehicles. KAYE, E., SHARP, J. R., and ARNOT, A. E. R. Jan. 13, 1958 [Oct. 12, 1956], No. 31181/56. Class 79(5). [Also in Group XXXII] An industrial truck has steerable wheels 11, 12 Fig. 2 mounted in pairs on separate axles 15 which are rockable about longitudinal pivots 17 at opposite ends of a transverse yoke 20 which is itself rockable about longitudinal pivots 26 on the frame so that the individual wheels and wheel pairs are free to adjust to ground inequalities. The axles 15 are pivoted at the centre on pins 17 at the lower ends of swivel mountings 18 which are rotatabie on vertical steering axes in bearings 19 depending from the ends of the yoke 20. Downwardly projecting flanges 25 at the front and rear of the yoke 20 pivot on axially aligned bearing pins 26 Fig. 4 projecting from brackets 28 beneath the truck frame. The wheels are steered from the truck steering column through a connecting rod 36 and a bell-crank lever 33 mounted on bearings 30 in the yoke 20. Arms 45 on the upper ends of the swivel mountings 18 are connected to the bell-crank 33 through links 41, 42 arranged to provide differential steering of the wheel pairs.
