Abstract
840,559. Valves. DAMIC CONTROLS Ltd. Sept. 25, 1957 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 24622/57. Class 135. A charging valve comprises a housing 1 having a member 5 slidable in a bore 4 therein and urged in one direction by a spring 15. The face of the slidable member 5 is provided with an annular recess 9 housing a resilient sealing ring 8. Peripheral flats 14 provide a passage for fluid past the member 5. The housing 1 is screw threaded at 2 at its opposite ends for connection with a source of pressure supply and with the component which is to be supplied with fluid under pressure. On the application of charging fluid the slidable member is forced to the right against the loading of the spring 15 and against the internal fluid pressure of the valve to permit charging fluid to pass through the valve. The valve is designed so that under normal operating conditions the sealing ring 8 makes linear or substantially linear engagement with the seating 7, but should the internal fluid pressure be excessive the face of the slidable member 5 and the seating 7 will abut to limit the compression of the sealing ring 8. The slidable member 5 may be formed in two parts 5 and 5a which when screwed together provide the annular recess 9. The recess 9 is formed so that it is narrower at the mouth than at the base, with the width of the mouth being less than the diameter of the sealing ring. The loading of the spring 15 may be varied by adjusting the sleeve 17.
