Abstract

840,538. Electric battery lamps. ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO. March 7, 1958 [March 22, 1957], No. 7454/58. Class 39(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electric torch device for use with a dry cell having an end terminal and a terminal constituted by the side wall of the battery comprises a casing 13 having an upper end to receive a lamp bulb and an open bottom end to receive the end of the battery 12 in which is the end terminal 60, means 52 to engage the end terminal so as to prevent longitudinal movement of the battery within the casing and means 76 for making electric contact with the side of the battery. The means 52 is in the form of a clip and is carried by gromet 58 in a cup-shaped plug 38 at the base of the reflector 22. The battery terminal 60 has a reduced neck for engagement with the clip 52. Contact is made with the side of the battery by an arcuate saddle piece 76 having down turned corners 80 providing sharp points for piercing the side wall of the battery. The saddle piece engages a contact strip 82 which can be reciprocated by a switch button 18 into and out of contact with the reflector 22 to complete the circuit.
