Abstract

839,730. Pipe end fittings. UNI-TUBES Ltd. Jan. 14, 1959 [Jan. 16, 1958], No. 1625/58. Class 99(1). A terminal fitting for tubing having external, helical convolutions 10 comprises a steel tubular element 12 which is internally screw-threaded along a part of its length to engage the convolutions 10 and which has a smooth cylindrical internal surface 15 projecting beyond the end of the tubing for reception of a hollow steel plug 17 provided with an extension 18 which fits snugly in the tubing and with a shoulder 22 between which and the end of the tubing a lead packing ring 2 is clamped when the plug 17 is forced into the tubular element 12. As shown, the tubing is formed from a helically wound steel strip having grooves 11 between the convolutions 10 which are engaged by the internal cusp-shaped screw-threads of the element 12. The plug 17 is provided with a flange 20 having a conical face which engages a conical socket in the part with which the tubing is connected by a union nut 23 which engages a flange 16 on the element 12, the flanges 16, 20 abutting each other when the sealing ring 21 is sufficiently compressed.
