Abstract

838,936. Steering rail vehicles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 27, 1958 [May 3, 1957], No. 14207/57. Class 103(6) To provide mutual steering between bogies 2, 3 of a railway &c. vehicle, a shaft 6 is supported in bearings 5 carried by the main frame 1, so as to be rotatable about its longitudinal axis, and has arms 7, 8 solidly connected to the ends and extending vertically upwards so that rotational movement of one of the arms about the longitudinal axis of the shaft is transmitted to the other arm. Each arm has a longitudinal slot defined by portions 9, 10 in which is housed a slidable member 11 having a spherical sealing for a bearing block 12. The block 12 has an internal bearing surface for a stud shaft 13 which is secured to the adjacent bogie frame and which is axially slidable. Movement of the bogies out of alignment, e.g. on a bend, causes rotational displacement from the vertical of the arm of the leading bogie which is transmitted through the shaft 6 to similarly displace the arm of the trailing bogie.
