[Also in Group XXXV] A space discharge apparatus including fluorescent lamps has the ballast in the form of a resistor made of iron wire in a housing filled with hydrogen, the housing also containing one or more bimetal strips forming starter switch(es) for the lamps, the bimetal strips being operated by the heat developed by the passage of current through the resistor or the heat acquired by the hydrogen filling. The iron wire is wound around a former made of glass fibres.
